Home Sally's Home...
On Poverty ... Homelessness ... Invisibility
"We see amongst us men who are overburdened with riches on the one hand, and on the other those unfortunate ones who starve with nothing; those who possess several stately palaces, and those who have not where to lay their head. Some we find with numerous courses of costly and dainty food; whilst others can scarce find sufficient crusts to keep them alive. Whilst some are clothed in velvets, furs and fine linen, others have insufficient, poor and thin garments with which to protect them from the cold. This condition of affairs is wrong and must be remedied. . ." --2
You never knew Sally.
You'll never know me so no need to look for the "About Us" page.
Cause it's not about us.
I remember Sally's beautiful spirit and radiance.
I never knew her troubles. I had moved from her town long ago.
I knew her only through my sisters and brothers who were closer to her age as we navigated high school.
I learned of Sally's death maybe last year, or maybe it was the year before.
The only thing they could say is that she was found dead under a bridge and that she had been homeless.
No one knew.
Or did everyone know?
This website is dedicated to the memory of Sally
Not because I knew her so well, but because I can't get her out of my mind. There is something here that wants to be, that needs to be told.
So I can only conclude that perhaps Sally is asking for something in her death that she could never ask for in life...
Not to be invisible.
Not to be forgotten.
Not to be dismissed.
And no I don't know exactly where this will all lead.
Just as no one knew that her life would end the way it did.
So maybe it's okay not to know.
Or is it?
